I have spent a lot of time thinking about students and their writing. I have worked in many places, affluent and low income, "high test score schools" and schools on the verge of being taken over by the state, high school and elementary school... The thing that every single place has in common is the absolute fear of writing. This fear is not isolated to the students, just ask teachers to sit down and write something... the collective groan is typically worse than a class full of students.
Why are we so afraid of writing? When did writing become such a drag?
I might never find the answer to those questions. My goal isn't to create some grand research project (though that might be fun) rather I hope to share my love of writing and my actual writing with everyone in hopes that everyone can begin to see that writing isn't really that bad.
My hope with this blog is that I can share my writing, my ideas, my mistakes, and my questions with the world in order to create a dialogue and a love for writing. Further, I hope that in so doing, people find a comfort level with writing that allows everyone to flourish as a writer, students and teachers alike.
